College of Dental Surgery >> Continuing Dental Education Programme
It is aimed at interaction between faculties, with the intention of exchange of knowledge. The overall vision of continuing dental education program is to involve the dental and medical faculty for actively participating in areas of mutual interest to raise the academic standards of the institution. The dental college has a committee for executing CDE program. This committee is actively involved in imparting dental education to the faculty, dental surgeons, technical staff and students on a regular basis as per their plan of action.

Research:All faculty members were encouraged to involve in research activities. Departmental research activities have been mentioned in their departmental report. BDS students were also assigned research works according to their curriculum.

Patient care service(Dental teaching hospital)

Dental teaching hospital is running with 78 dental chairs and an inpatients ward of 10 beds, state of the art equipments and materials, and an enthusiastic and energetic team of faculty, dental surgeons and supporting staff. Patient inflow is about 80-120 per day. Treatment includes out patient as well as in patient dental surgery, aesthetic restorations RCT’s, scaling, periodontal surgery, denture work, crown and bridge work, oral rehabilitation and maxillofacial reconstruction. The services have spread to the peripheral/rural population over eastern region.

Dental OPD, minor OT and radiology are in the dental college premises; in-patient ward, major OT’s, ICU and clinical laboratories (microbiology, pathology and biochemistry) are located in the medical college buildings.

Community Services: College of Dental Surgery is actively involved in community services with the co-ordination of Department of Community Medicine, Community Nursing, and Public Health Section. The institute has 5 district hospitals in Dhankutta, Sunsari, Morang, Ilam and Rajbiraj. 5 primary health care centers are utilized as teaching district centers. One each fully equipped dental chair has been installed in Dhankutta, Rangeli, Rajbiraj, Inaruwa, Bhadrapur, Ilam district hospitals and in Biratnagar zonal hospital. Dental surgeons from BPKIHS dental college are posted on regular residential basis for the smooth running of dental clinics as well as for the supervision of dental interns at peripherals. Moreover, one faculty from BPKIHS dental college is visiting the peripherals for the supervision of the peripherals. Department of community dentistry is also conducting school dental health program, mother-child dental health education program and dental health camp in and around peripheral centers of teaching districts. The hospital is providing technical support to field based clinical activities in accordance with the teaching program as per the curriculum of BDS.
